Unhappy members of the All Progressives Congress, on Thursday, demonstrated against the result of Saturday's primary election that made Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa the winner at the party's headquarters in Abuja.
The young demonstrators, who arrived in four fancy buses, were stopped by security officers at the entrance of the headquarters.
Shortly after, the protesters gathered again near the headquarters by the well-known Barcelona Hotel, chanting 'Aluta Continua.'
While holding signs that said 'Ondo APC rejects Kangaroo primary election,' 'No primary held in Ondo,' and 'We want a fresh election,' they said they would march back into the party headquarters.
Their protest happened around the same time the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and members of the National Working Committee were trying to calm down the upset candidates to support Aiyedatiwa for the governorship election in November.
Talking to reporters, the leader of the protesters, who is also a party youth leader in Akure South, Kolawole Johnson, called the primary a sham and said that only a new election can make their people in Ondo feel better.
Johnson also asked President Bola Tinubu and other party leaders to influence the NWC to appoint a new election committee chairman to oversee the new vote.
He said, "How can you say you want to approve the result of a primary and you announce a candidate? It shows there is cheating. Ondo is APC, and APC is Ondo State. We won't just sit back and let opposition parties take Ondo from us.
That's why we're asking the party to cancel the primary. There should be a new vote, and we want a new person to lead the committee that will supervise us. What they did is not a primary election. It's like selling the APC ticket. We want a new vote because we are not happy with the poll.
"So we want President Bola Tinubu to look into this. We don't want the opposition to take over Ondo State."
