Leanne Morgan is set to star in a new show on Netflix created by Chuck Lorre, according to TheWrap.
Netflix has ordered a new comedy series co-created by Morgan, Lorre, and Susan McMartin. The show, which is currently unnamed and will have 16 episodes, will center on Morgan's journey as she adapts to a major life change.
The official description reads: “Leanne’s world turns upside down when her husband leaves her after 33 years of marriage. Starting over as a grandmother going through menopause was not her plan, but with the support of her family, she will face this new chapter with grace, dignity, and jello salad.”
In addition to the new series, Netflix has also given Morgan two more stand-up specials following the success of her 2023 debut, “Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman.”
“I’ve dreamt of this since I was a child, and it's unbelievable that it has become a reality! When I started doing comedy 25 years ago, my aim was to be in a sitcom,” Morgan expressed in a statement. “This just proves that it's never too late, and dreams do come true. I'm a grandmother from Tennessee, and now I have a TV show with Chuck Lorre and Netflix. It's incredible!?”
“If you've seen even ten seconds of Leanne Morgan’s stand-up, you know how unique and funny she is,” Lorre commented. “The theme of starting over is universal, and I can't think of anyone better than Leanne to blend heart and comedy. I knew I had to collaborate with her, and I'm thrilled to bring this story to Netflix.”
Lorre, Morgan, McMartin, and Judi Marmel are all serving as executive producers, while the series is being produced by Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.
“We're so excited to expand our partnership with Leanne Morgan, whose distinct and hilarious voice captivated audiences with her first Netflix special last year, and to team up again with the legendary Chuck Lorre,” said Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s head of comedy. “We're eager to see their collaboration on Netflix's next major comedy series.”
The sitcom represents Lorre's latest project with Netflix following the success of “The Kominsky Method,” which ran for three seasons. This news also arrives as Lorre's long-standing CBS series “Young Sheldon” and “Bob Hearts Abishola” are coming to an end this season, while a new “Young Sheldon” spin-off has been ordered by CBS for the 2024-2025 broadcast season.
