The Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ugbolue, announced that Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State has developed new effective ways of farming fish and growing cassava.
The university, which is eight years old, has also completed a significant study on environmental and industrial chemistry to address environmental problems in the Niger Delta region.
The VC disclosed this information at a press briefing on Wednesday at the university's campus in Kiagbodo.
Ugbolue stated that the briefing was held to celebrate the university's 25th position out of 249 universities in Nigeria, 6th among private universities, and top in the South-South in the 2023 National University Commission ranking.
The VC expressed his enthusiasm, saying that it is a source of pride for the university to be ranked 25th out of 249 universities in Nigeria.
He listed the criteria used by the NUC for the ranking, including staff/student ratio, community service, research activities, and collaboration with international universities and government agencies.
The VC, visibly happy, declared a celebration for the management staff on campus, acknowledging their contributions to the university.
However, he emphasized that despite the NUC ranking, the university will not be complacent and will strive for even higher accomplishments.
He stated that the university management remains committed to enhancing facilities for education, improving student and staff welfare, and fostering a conducive learning environment.
The VC expressed delight that all 27 programs offered in the university's five faculties are fully accredited.
He also commended the increase in student enrollment to 1,479 for the 2023/2024 academic session, all of whom are fully residential students.
The VC mentioned that the university is currently fully funded by the Edwin Clark Foundation and appealed for support from agencies and stakeholders to further enhance the institution's academic programs and the welfare of students and staff.
