A sad event occurred at BrickHall Schools in Cadastral Zone B11, Kaura in Abuja on Wednesday. During the school's mealtime, a 4-year-old student named Miguel Ovoke passed away.
An official document from Excel Specialist Hospital in Abuja, dated April 24, 2024, was seen by our reporter. It states that Ovoke was taken to the hospital by his teachers around 11 am while he was unconscious.
A medical report signed by Dr. Akinwande Ajayi, on behalf of the medical director, mentioned that he was brought in due to choking on food while eating at school.
According to the hospital, the medical team observed that the boy’s pupils were fixed and dilated, with no response to light.
Additionally, they noted that his peripheral pulses were impalpable, and there were no signs of cardiac or pulmonary activity or breathing efforts.
The report mentioned that all attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Consequently, the report concluded that he was brought in already deceased.
The parents, suspecting foul play, have enlisted the help of a lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, to handle the case on their behalf.
Adeyanju verified this information with our correspondent on Thursday.
Efforts to obtain a response from the school authorities have been unsuccessful as of the time of this report.
The school has not yet replied to an email sent to its known email address.
More details to come.
