An Air Peace plane from Port Harcourt had to land quickly at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on Thursday because the pilots saw a fire warning in the cockpit.
The plane, with 243 passengers and 12 crew members, landed safely at 4:45pm on Runway18L of the airport.
The pilots turned off the engines when the fire fighting team noticed smoke coming from them.
The plane's call sign is: APK7193.
Air Peace later said that the fire warning in the cockpit was actually a false alarm.
The statement was called “Notification of false fire alarm on Port Harcourt-Lagos flight.”
It stated, “We want to let everyone know about an incident during our Port Harcourt-Lagos flight P47193 today, April 25, 2024.
“Just before landing, our Captain saw a fire warning in the cockpit. The pilots took all the necessary safety steps, and the fire indicator turned off. The Captain informed our Operations Control Centre in Lagos at 17:37 hrs.
“It was found after landing that the alarm was false and there was no actual fire. The plane landed safely, and all passengers got off as usual.
“We want to reassure everyone that safety is our top priority, and we are completely committed to it.”
