DANVILLE — Geisinger announced on Thursday that it will use an annual grant from the American Cancer Society (ACS) to help cover expenses for patients who travel for radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
The grant funds will be given to patients based on their individual needs. It can be used to buy gas gift cards, cab ride vouchers, parking passes and non-emergency medical transport, as stated in a press release.
Lisa Keifer, senior director of radiation oncology at Geisinger, expressed that the ACS grant allows them to support patients during challenging times. This initiative has enabled the organization to provide over 6,000 rides to 451 patients, helping them receive critical treatment closer to home.
The Patient Transportation Grant provides financial support to health systems and health system foundations, assisting patients in reaching their cancer-related treatment appointments.
