NEWPORT TWP. — A woman who was held by the police after a fight at home was accused of teasing a police dog late Friday night.
Ivy Lynn Meres, 48, of Old Newport Street, Newport Township, was put in a police car by the Newport Township police and she moved back and forth to tease the police department’s K-9, according to court records.
Meres did not listen to the police when they told her to stop teasing the dog, but she kept moving the car back and forth, according to court records.
Newport Township police said the dog broke through a safety divider while Meres allegedly continued to tease the dog.
Meres was held by the police when they came to her house to deal with a fight involving Chad Steele just before 10 p.m. Friday.
Steele told the police that Meres was not giving back his things unless he gave her a marijuana vape pen, according to court records.
Meres threw clothes at Steele, grabbed Steele by his arm, and pushed him against a wall, according to court records.
When an officer tried to hold Meres, she allegedly fought back and fell to the floor.
After Meres was put in the car, the police said in court records that she teased the police dog.
Meres was brought before District Judge David Barilla of Forty For on two charges of simple assault and harassment and one charge each of teasing a police animal, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. She was freed on $1,000 bail.
