He presents himself as a strongman who intimidates the vulnerable, and this is appreciated by his followers. Therefore, seeing him being treated like anyone else in court is likely causing some cognitive dissonance for his more discerning followers. If left unaddressed, this could prompt people to reconsider their perception of Trump, which he cannot afford.
This is Trump’s way of reinforcing an image of himself as a beloved, revered leader even as he sits in a courtroom as the defendant in a criminal trial that essentially revolves around allegations of cheating to win the 2016 election.

The issue here is that Trump is accused of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records for payments to Daniels.
According to experts, former president Donald Trump is very unhappy and psychologically distressed when he has to sit quietly in a courtroom while others speak negatively about him. Trump built his whole empire and presidency on stories that were often not true.
As president, Trump didn't take the pandemic seriously, leading to many deaths. He was more focused on his own election than on the well-being of the people. A responsible leader would not allegedly share important secrets or incite attacks against his own country.
Conservative media has hidden these facts, making it difficult for Trump to control the narrative during this trial. This allows some truth to enter his supporters' closed-off view. Trump knows that being seen as not in control is a big threat. So, despite the image of “Daddy Trump,” the reality is a weakened Trump who falls asleep during his trial.
