The Sokoto State Police Command has affirmed that two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the recent confrontation between suspected criminals and community guards in the Gada Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmed Rufai, revealed this during a phone conversation with our reporter on Sunday.
The state police command had verified the deaths of six individuals in a clash between suspected criminals and community guards, known locally as Yan Sakai, in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to sources, the community guards sought retribution for the death of their leader, Alhaji Dahiru, allegedly killed by a suspected criminal.
Eyewitnesses said PUNCH Metro that the situation began when a leader of the Gidan Hashimu village community guards attempted to detain and question a notorious cattle thief spotted loitering in the market. The attempt was resisted by a group of Fulani people around the market.
Additionally, Rufai mentioned that the two individuals were apprehended on Sunday morning.
“We arrested two individuals this morning in connection with the Gada incident. The two individuals were apprehended with a Dane gun and three cows.
“They are from a village in Goronyo Local Government Area of the state. According to our initial investigation, both of them have admitted to the crime.
“They also pledged to provide more information about the fleeing suspects, which we hope will lead to their potential apprehension and prosecution in accordance with the law.”
