Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, has advised its 380 new students to be focused, avoid distractions, and spend time wisely.
During the sixth matriculation ceremony and lecture, guest speaker, former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Wema Bank, Plc, Mr Ademola Adebise, spoke about the importance of staying focused and avoiding distractions, both physical and virtual.
“As you start this transformative journey, remember that academic excellence is important, but success has many aspects. Intellectual intelligence is crucial in cerebral professions, but emotional intelligence and social intelligence are equally important. These aspects, beyond academic prowess, are self-taught and cultivated from within. They are fundamental to holistic achievement.
“As you start this transformative journey, embrace the principles of empowered living. Strive for excellence, set goals, build resilience, challenge limiting beliefs, and commit to personal growth. Trust in God’s guidance and let your passion drive your purpose.”
Pro-Chancellor & Chairman, Governing Council, Mr Samuel Olatunji, spoke about signals that would aid superlative achievements.
“Appreciate the great treasure and gift of time. How you spend it is a powerful predictor of your future! Start by setting clear goals for a fulfilling undergraduate experience, covering academics and non-academics where you want to excel.
“Excellence, superior and outstanding achievements come at a price. There are no shortcuts.
“Do not violate university rules and regulations. Trinity University has edifying, life-enhancing rules, regulations, and values. Please follow them. Some students unfortunately suffer consequences. The friends you keep will influence you. Aspiring stars must watch out for and avoid unprofitable and non-edifying associations. Challenge yourself and do not make excuses for mediocre performance.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Kolawole, emphasized the importance of managing time wisely and avoiding distractions or disruptions. He also stressed the importance of showing respect and responsibility as students of Trinity University.
He mentioned that the university was planning to introduce five new programs including optometry, biochemistry, cybersecurity, software engineering, and film and multimedia studies.
Kolawole mentioned that these programs are relevant for the present and future job market, and the university is working on providing opportunities for students to gain practical skills and competencies for post-graduation success.
