The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control's Investigation and Enforcement Directorate has discovered the illicit actions of a counterfeit cosmetics manufacturer at the Balogun Trade Fair Gate, Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.
NAFDAC revealed this on its X account on Monday.
The organization stated that Mr Pius Effiong Eyoh, the owner of Pasco Global Limited, is the manufacturer of the fake cosmetics.
It mentioned that Eyoh was captured for producing, packaging, distributing, and vending a variety of subpar and fake beauty items.
These included products such as skin balance, perfect knuckle, organic peel therapy, and golden face triple action concentrated perfect skin.
Eyoh was caught preparing and packaging these beauty products with incorrect labels featuring French writings and a Cameroonian location.
NAFDAC's involvement led to the closure of the unauthorized manufacturing site, Eyoh's arrest, and the scheduling of his inferior products for disposal,
Last Thursday, the agency's operatives conducted a surprise inspection of well-known supermarkets in Abuja, including Sahad Stores and H-Medix in Wuse 2 and Gwarinpa, revealing counterfeit products.
The enforcement team also focused on markets in Garki, Wuse, Utako, Kugbo, Nyanya, and Mararaba, confiscating counterfeit cosmetics and medications.
During the operation, fake cosmetics were found and confiscated at Sahad Stores, H-Medix, and several markets, while counterfeit drugs were seized at Utako market.
Counterfeit Nivea products, cosmetics, Jik bleach, Harpic toilet cleaner, and Airwick room freshener were all seized. The total value of the confiscated goods reached ₦50 million, with counterfeit Nivea products alone valued at ₦45 million,
