Human rights advocate and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has stated that he did not appeal the conviction of well-known cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, despite rumors suggesting otherwise.
In an exclusive phone interview on Monday, Adeyanju clarified that he is not representing Bobrisky as his attorney and has not submitted an appeal on his behalf.
Adeyanju clarified, “I didn’t file any appeal on Bobrisky’s behalf. I am not representing Bobrisky on any matter.”
On Friday, April 5, Bobrisky was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission with six offenses related to naira abuse and money laundering.
The court, however, dropped the money laundering charges and convicted him when he admitted guilt to four counts of naira abuse.
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison on Friday, April 12 for naira abuse and was not offered the option of a fine.
However, reports on Monday indicated that the convicted crossdresser has appealed the sentence and is asking the appeals court to overturn the six-month imprisonment.
