The Abuja Chinese supermarket located within the China General Chamber of Commerce in Abuja has been closed by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
The closure came after accusations of unfair treatment towards Nigerians.
On Monday, FCCPC officials closed the supermarket during their visit to the premises.
After questioning Nigerian employees at the supermarket, the commission’s officials sealed the place.
During the visit, the store's facilities workers revealed that the owner, a Chinese lady named Cindy Liu Bei, had left the premises.
Nigerian workers at the store mentioned this when the Commission officials arrived on Monday.
According to the workers, the owner and her family fled at 8:26 am on Monday as captured by the Closed-Circuit Television camera.
Subsequently, the FCCPC officials closed down the supermarket.
The PUNCH had reported exclusively on Sunday that the supermarket had enforced a controversial policy allowing only Chinese nationals to enter, excluding others from patronising the establishment. Nigerians This policy drew widespread criticism on social media as Nigerians expressed their concerns about the unfair treatment.
