President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to initiate the African Counter-Terrorism Summit in Abuja on Monday.
This information was revealed in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, and posted on his Facebook page on Sunday.
Nigeria, with support from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, is arranging a high-level African counter-terrorism summit focused on 'Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Institution Building to Address the Evolving Threat of Terrorism'.
The statement notes that Heads of state, high-level government officials across Africa, representatives of international organisations and multilateral institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, and members of civil society groups are expected to attend the summit.
The summit's aim is to improve multilateral counter-terrorism cooperation and reshape the international community’s collective response to terrorism in Africa, emphasizing the importance of African-led and African-owned solutions.
The statement stated, “The summit will provide a platform to evaluate the nature and seriousness of the terrorism threat on the continent, with the goal of agreeing on concrete strategic priorities and measures to address this issue.
“It will also promote greater regional cooperation, enhance the institutional capacity of member states, and facilitate the exchange of best practices and knowledge to combat the complex threat of terrorism in Africa.
“Ms. Amina Mohammed, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, will be in attendance.
“Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser, and Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, UNOCT, will give the concluding remarks at the end of the summit.”
