One more group within the All Progressives Congress in Ganduje Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, Kano State, has declared the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.
The ward’s Legal Adviser, Haladu Gwanjo, last week announced the suspension of Ganduje.
Gwanjo, who mentioned alleged corruption and other bad behavior as causes for the suspension, said that the decision was made by nine executive members of party in Ganduje ward.
The state branch of the party intervened swiftly and suspended the ward executives for their involvement in the move.
The party’s ward chairman, Ahmad Ganduje, also expressed support for Ganduje, stating that the ward officials were content with his leadership style.
In expressing confidence in Ganduje, the chairman urged all party members in the ward and across the state to remain calm and follow the law.
However, in a new development in the early hours of Sunday, another group, claiming to be the rightful executives, once again announced the suspension of Ganduje.
Addressing the media, the secretary of the faction, Ja’afar Ganduje, who spoke on behalf of 11 other executive members, based the suspension on alleged anti-party activities by Ganduje.
He said this was particularly during the last general election.
He also alleged that the APC national chairman had failed to pay his statutory dues to the party.
He further blamed Ganduje for contributing to the split of the party at the ward level, which he said had damaged the party's reputation.
“We are the genuine executives of Ganduje ward and we have expressed a lack of confidence and imposed a new suspension on Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for various reasons.
“First, we have suspended Dr. Ganduje’s membership for creating internal conflict among party members at the ward level.
“Another major reason why the authentic executives resolved to suspend Ganduje is the issue of anti-party activities he generated during the 2023 elections which resulted to the party’s failure in the state,” he said.
