Victoria Idowu, a woman in her late forties, is said to have killed herself by hanging from a ceiling fan in Magboro, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, shared this information with PUNCH Online during a WhatsApp chat on Sunday.
According to Odutola, the woman's son raised the alarm after returning from a church service and finding his mother hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling fan in her room.
She added that after receiving the report, police officers from the Ibafo Division visited the scene where the woman's body was found.
She further revealed that a suicide note was not discovered when the room was searched.
Odutola said, “According to the son, he came back from the church at about 1530 hours and discovered that his mother, one Mrs. Idowu Victoria, aged 49, had committed suicide by hanging herself on the ceiling fan inside her room.
“The DPO immediately sent officers to the scene. No suicide note was found.”
The PPRO also mentioned that an investigation has begun to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
However, she encouraged the public to offer support to their loved ones who may be dealing with mental health challenges.
“Meanwhile, the investigation is still ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the sad incident. Suicide is unlawful.
“Those with mental health issues require more support from family members to avoid such tragedies,” she concluded.
