A recent poll from Texas indicates that former President Donald Trump has a substantial advantage over President Joe Biden, and Senator Ted Cruz is consistently ahead of Representative Colin Allred.
The Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation poll conducted the poll between April 5 and 10. The results show Trump ahead of Biden by 48% to 36% when considering third-party candidates. In a direct contest between Trump and Biden, the lead narrows to 10 percentage points. Cruz leads Allred for the U.S. Senate seat in Texas by 46% to 41%.
The poll involved 1,600 likely voters in Texas and has a margin of error of 2.45%. It also revealed that Robert F. Kennedy garnered 9% support.
Trump secured a 4 percentage point lead over Biden in the Hispanic vote, with 41% to 37%. However, Cruz did not perform as well as the Republican presidential candidate, with likely Hispanic voters in Texas favoring Allred by 5 percentage points.
Jason Villalba, the CEO of the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation and a former Republican state representative, stated that the results demonstrate the ongoing progress of Republicans in garnering support from Hispanics.
“Over the most recent election cycles, Texas Hispanics have shown a growing willingness to consider, and ultimately vote for, Republican candidates, especially at the Presidential level,” he said in a press release.
“However, this is the first time we have seen a Republican statewide candidate attract a majority of Texas likely Hispanic voters,” he continued. “Trump’s appeal to Hispanic evangelicals and men has helped him cobble together a level of support from Hispanics not seen since George W. Bush.”
A Marist poll had similar results for likely voters overall, as reported by The Dallas Express. It showed Trump leading Biden by 11 percentage points in a head-to-head race and Cruz leading Allred by 6 percentage points.
The RealClearPolitics aggregate average of polling data shows shows a tie between Trump and Biden at the national level. Cruz has maintained a lead over Allred in polls over the past two months.
