The Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, who is the chairman of the seven-member committee responsible for the Ondo All Progressives Congress governorship primary, had a heated argument with one of the aspirants, Gbenga Edema, about the distribution of election materials for the party’s primary on Saturday.
The disagreement started when Edema confronted Ododo, stating that election materials were supposed to be given to different wards in the state, despite the secretary of the primary election committee, Ovie Omo-Agege, announcing that “accreditation will start at 10 am, be completed by 1 pm, while voting will start at 1 pm and end by 2 pm”.
He claimed that the committee had not followed the protocols for the process.
In response, Ododo said that election materials had been sent to both the North and South senatorial districts of the state.
Similarly, another aspirant from Okitipupa Local Government Area, Adedayo Faduyile, also criticized the election process, saying that proper procedure was not followed.
Faduyile told PUNCH Online, “Yesterday we were told that they would release the electoral materials by 8 am today, but around 9.30 the materials were not available. Around 7.30 someone started counting people claiming to be conducting elections in my ward. I saw an official counting votes. When I asked the official about the register and electoral materials, he said they were not ready. So, they were counting votes without electoral materials even though accreditations were supposed to start at 10 am.
“Till now, we haven’t received any electoral material, we haven’t seen anybody. There has been no election, and it’s the same in several areas like Otu Balogun, Ilaje, Ireni, Owo, Ose, and Akoko local government areas. No election anywhere.”
He also alleged that “the officials collected names of the supporters of the State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and claimed he won when no election was conducted.”
