The Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has expressed contentment with the number of party members who participated in choosing their preferred candidate for the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
During the primary, which took place on Saturday across the 203 wards and 18 local government areas of the state, at least 16 aspirants took part in the process.
These included Aiyedatiwa, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, Wale Akinterinwa, Diran Iyantan, Dayo Faduyile, Gbenga Edema, Jimi Odimayo, and Jimoh Ibrahim.
Also participating were Olamide Ohunyeye (retd), Diran Iyantan, Ife Oyedele, Soji Ehinlawo, Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, Morayo Lebi, and Funke Omogoroye.
Following the voting exercise at Ugbo Ward 4, Obenla, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, Aiyedatiwa stated that the party primary is a crucial step in determining the APC’s candidate for the upcoming governorship election.
The governor expressed confidence in the democratic process and reiterated his dedication to maintaining transparency and fairness in the party’s candidate selection.
“According to the information I received from other local governments, the primary was peaceful and I am pleased with the number of people who participated in the exercise here at home and in other places. It was successful.
“For me, this is a special homecoming, and I extend my sincere gratitude to my fellow constituents, esteemed party members, and the vibrant community of Ugbo Ward 4 in Ilaje Local Government. Today, in the place of my birth, I am here to vote and compete for the honor of representing our party as its gubernatorial candidate in the November election”
“The significant turnout we witnessed here today comes as no surprise to me, as this is where my journey began. It is here, among the familiar streets and faces, where I took my first steps and received my primary education.
“The joy of reconnecting with my roots is further enhanced by the presence of two of my childhood classmates, a delightful reunion that fills me with immense happiness,” he stated.
