DUPONT — Frank Andrews and Jeff Romanecz have been the owners of Cebula’s Pizza & Bar for 18 months, carrying on a tradition that started in 1939.
Cebula’s, located at 295 Main St. in Dupont, has always been famous for its “distinctive” pizza, and the new owners have successfully maintained the same style and flavor.
Andrews and Romanecz not only bought the business, the building, and the liquor license — they also acquired the renowned pizza recipe.
Andrews mentioned that he enjoyed Cebula’s pizza when he first tasted it about 10 years ago.
My history with Cebula’s dates back much further. It has always been a personal favorite due to its unique — yes, unique — combination of cheese and sauce. And discovering that the new owners have not altered the pizza was very reassuring to me.
So whenever I was in Lackawanna County, I always made a stop at Cebula’s. I would simply call ahead to place an order, then go to the back of the building to pick it up.
Revisiting that routine was great, but the best part was returning home and diving into the first slice of Cebula’s pizza made by the new owners.
I can recall a time long ago when a group of us would go to Cebula’s, get a table, and order a tray or two along with some alcoholic drinks. I thought about those times when I arrived in the parking lot, but my only purpose was to get the pizza and check if it still tasted like Cebula’s — and I was not let down.
When I peered into the bar area, it felt like stepping back in time. The bar looked the same, and the booths were the same ones we used years ago. That also gave me a good feeling.
The bar was also packed. Everyone seemed happy. They were there to dine and have a good time, and Cebula’s is a great place to achieve those objectives.
Moreover, the menu extends beyond pizza. They offer salads, burgers, boneless bites, and sandwiches. After perusing the menu, I felt eager to come back many times and try them all.
Cebula’s can be contacted at 5470-655-8809.
They are open from 4 to 10 p.m. (kitchen closes at 9 p.m.) on Wednesday and Thursday; and from 4 to 11 p.m. (kitchen closes at 10 p.m.) on Friday and Saturday.
Cebula’s only accepts cash payments.
So try Cebula’s for something a little different, but you will definitely find delicious food, plenty of entertainment, and friendly faces.
