The former Ebonyi Governor, Senator David Umahi, expressed happiness that his successor, Governor Francis Nwifuru, still respects him after he left office.
Umahi made this statement while talking to reporters after receiving an honorary doctorate from the Ebonyi State University in Abakaliki on Saturday.
Umahi, who is now the Minister of Works, mentioned that it is not common for a successor to continue honoring their predecessor after taking over.
”This is the work of God, and I am thankful to Him and the governor.
“In many states, governors and their predecessors are fighting, but in Ebonyi, we are always celebrating.
“This is due to God's mercy and the wisdom given to the governor,” he said.
The minister praised Nwifuru for promoting peace in the state and assured that this would be maintained.
“You can see that the state is making steady progress, and what I couldn't finish as David, he is accomplishing as Solomon.
“He is like my son, and I am pleased with him,” he said.
Umahi expressed gratitude to the university for honoring him and others and promised to keep contributing to its development.
”I applaud the Vice-Chancellor and management for the remarkable achievements of the institution; we are all proud to have a university with such accomplishments.
“The task becomes easy when you are not the one doing it, and I appreciate the state governor for his great work in the university.
“I will consult with my fellow awardees, and we will provide significant support to the university,” he stated.
