Parents will have additional resources other than report cards to stay updated on their child’s performance in school.
The Go Beyond Grades organization is making an effort to better educate parents about their students’ academic performance and give them resources to assist. This effort is active in Houston, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C., and now includes coverage beyond a single city in Tarrant County.
The Tarrant County campaign was launched by The Sid W. Richardson Foundation, Parent Pass, and The Miles Foundation.
“Go Beyond Grades has the potential to reach a critical mass,” said said Pete Geren, president and CEO of the Sid W. Richardson Foundation, as reported by the Fort Worth Report.
According to the Go Beyond Grades website,
“96% of Tarrant County parents believe their kids read at grade level. Only 52% of kids actually do.” scored In Fort Worth ISD, just 38% of students clocked scored at grade level in reading on the 2021-2022 STAAR exams, per the Texas Education Agency. In Dallas ISD, the figure was only
43%.
Tarrant County is fully engaged in Go Beyond Grades, sharing information on each campus within the county’s 20 school districts and charter schools.
With over 50 billboards promoting the new campaign throughout the county, more parents and teachers are becoming aware of the resources provided by Go Beyond Grades. events In April and May, Go Beyond Grades is also hosting various informative events across the county. These gatherings will be an opportunity for parents to gain insights on effectively monitoring their child’s academic progress and ensuring they are performing at grade level.
Local leaders, such as Leah King, president and CEO of United Way, see the organization as an entity that unifies the county by aiding students.
King stated, “It really brings all sectors together, guiding in the same direction and emphasizing the need to provide information, resources, and tools to our teachers and parents so that, collectively, they can establish the best approach for students,” according to FWR.
