The Edo State Labour Party governorship nominee for the September 21 governorship election in the state, Olumide Akpata, went to visit Dr Presley Osemwegie, who got hurt in an attack when the UNIBEN staff club hosted the LP candidate on April 12.
While Akpata was at the interactive gathering, students reportedly violently disrupted the occasion, which led to a crisis within the school grounds. The teacher suffered an injury and got medical care at a undisclosed hospital in Benin.
Akpata also denied claims that his security personnel shot a student of the institution, stating that nothing of the sort occurred. He accused a high-ranking government official of organizing the attack on him. Sharing his thoughts yesterday, Akpata said, “I prioritized visiting Dr Presley Osemwegie, the UNIBEN lecturer who was injured in a senseless act of violence at the UNIBEN Staff Club.
“Hearing his firsthand account of the gory details was both heartbreaking and enlightening.
“As I interacted with Dr Osemwegie and his family, offering prayers for his recovery, I was reminded of the profound impact such incidents have on individuals and their loved ones.
“It is a clear reminder that we must work tirelessly to support peace, respect, and understanding.
“While the investigation continues, I remain committed to fully cooperating and supporting efforts towards a fair and just resolution.
“This unfortunate incident has only strengthened my determination to advocate for peaceful discussions and open communication, where differences are resolved through constructive conversations, not violence,” he added.
