Armed individuals have once more carried out an assault on the Tilengpat Pushit community in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of twelve individuals.
It was discovered that the assaults leading to the fatalities of the victims happened late on Thursday.
In the previous week, armed individuals killed at least ten people in Mandung-Mushu and Kopnanle villages, in the Bokkos and Mangu local government areas of the state.
They also left multiple individuals injured, while also setting fire to property including the residents' homes.
Markus Argue, the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area, confirmed the recent killings to The PUNCH in Jos on Friday.
He stated, “Yes, it is true that our people have just been attacked again and killed for no reason. It occurred last night. As I talk to you, I’m in the affected community in Pushit. I can not give you the figure of victims for now because we are still assessing the situation but what we don’t understand is why some people will just target women and children in their homes and just kill them for no reason.
However, a community leader in Pushit, known as John, informed our correspondent that twelve deceased individuals had been found at the site of the attack and the nearby bush from the recent assault.
John mentioned, “So far, we have found twelve deceased individuals who were brutally murdered during the attack in the Pushit community and their bodies were found.
“The identities of the victims have not yet been revealed, awaiting notification of their families. Law enforcement agencies are also present and have initiated investigations into the matter to determine the motive behind these terrible crimes and to capture the perpetrators responsible for this disgraceful act”
The Spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, could not be immediately reached for comment on the incident, although sources at the Command headquarters in Jos mentioned that security forces had been dispatched to the affected community
In the meantime, women in Bokkos Local Government Area have taken to the streets in protests against the renewed violent attacks by armed individuals in their communities.
A number of residents in Bokkos town stated that the protesting women were on their way to the Council headquarters to express their grievances.
