Sony Pictures Classic plans to release the famous independent movie “Run Lola Run” in theaters this summer to mark the film’s 25th anniversary. They will use a new DCP from the 4K restoration for this release. The thrilling movie starring Franka Potente will be shown nationwide starting from June 7.
Tom Tykwer wrote and directed “Run Lola Run,” which was first shown in the U.S. in 1999 and gained attention for its three-part structure. This German-language thriller follows the story of Lola, a woman who has to get a large amount of money within 20 minutes to save her boyfriend’s life. The story is told three times, each with a different ending.
“Run Lola Run” was released alongside other groundbreaking films in 1999 such as “Fight Club,” “The Matrix,” and “The Blair Witch Project.” These movies had a significant impact on the future of cinema.
The film earned more than $7 million in the United States and Canada, making it one of the highest-earning foreign-language films released domestically at the time. It also made over $22 million internationally. Additionally, it received positive reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival, and won the Audience Award at the latter.
The studio commented, “‘Run Lola Run’ has remained one of Sony Pictures Classics' most enduring titles over the past 25 years. It is just as relevant today as it was when it first came out in 1999. Our nationwide re-release in June is a way to honor this groundbreaking thriller and to allow new audiences to experience it on the big screen.”
