Former Liverpool's defender, Steve Nicol, has encouraged Liverpool to make a strong effort to sign Victor Osimhen, a striker from Napoli, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Osimhen moved from Lille to Napoli in 2020 and recently signed a new contract with Napoli in December, increasing his monthly salary to €1.5m.
Although Osimhen has a new contract with a £113m release clause, he is still attracting interest from top clubs after scoring 31 goals in 39 appearances last season and helping Napoli win their first league title in over three decades.
During an interview with ESPN, Nicol, a former Liverpool player, suggested that signing Osimhen would be an outstanding move for the Reds.
“Salah is leaving, whether this year or next year,” said the 62-year-old.
“I think Osimhen would be fantastic for Liverpool. He is the one player in the world that you need. We have just signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, and Endo has been incredible. We need someone who will work hard and provide support to Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Salah.”
