In the upcoming school year, Fort Worth ISD pre-K students will finish school at the same time as elementary students.
Starting in the 2024-25 academic year, the pre-K students' day will be extended from 7:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m., compared to their previous release time of 2:30 p.m.
The schedule for 3 to 4 year olds will now align with the elementary schools within the district.

The leadership of Fort Worth ISD has been considering extending the school day for several years, believing it will offer more convenience, instructional opportunities, and positively impact Kindergarten readiness and support to the school community.
According to Padilla, the extended time will allow for additional instruction in math, literacy, and other subjects.
To accommodate the longer school day, students' rest time will be increased from 30 to 45 minutes.

The decision to extend the day was made during a January 30 school board meeting when the calendar for the 2024-25 school year was adopted.
