The Federal Government has created a 28-person committee from different government departments to plan and supervise events marking President Bola Tinubu’s first year as president.
During the committee's inauguration at his office, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, highlighted the significance of the celebration in displaying the government's accomplishments and dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
On March 1, 2023, Tinubu was announced as the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
After receiving 8,794,726 votes, he was declared the president-elect, defeating his rivals.
Tinubu took the oath of office on May 29, 2023.
In a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, on Friday, Akume was quoted as saying, "The purpose of this celebration is to be accountable to Nigerians by promoting the achievements of the current administration over the past year and also to reassure our citizens that the government will remain focused and committed to implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda for a positive impact on the socio-economic life of Nigerians".
The activities include press briefings, sectoral updates, the First Lady's program, national discussions, the launch of the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, and a national broadcast, among others, according to the statement.
In order to ensure smooth coordination, 11 sub-committees have been set up, covering various aspects such as security, media, protocol, and accommodation.
According to Imohiosen, "In order to ensure the successful and smooth execution of the celebration, the SGF inaugurated the following 11 Sub-Committees: Church Service Sub-Committee; Juma'at Sub-Committee; Protocol Sub-Committee; Venue and Entertainment Sub-Committee; Medical Sub-Committee; Security Sub-Committee; Media and Publicity Sub-Committee; Parade Sub-Committee; Public Lecture/Symposium Sub-Committee; Accommodation Sub-Committee; and Secretariat Sub-Committee".
