An auto repairman named Jonathan Marcus, who regularly served as a driver for an older couple in Abuja, Adebola Ezekiel, 80, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel, 79, has been arrested in connection with their brutal murder at their home in Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja on March 31, 2024.
Marcus was one of a number of suspects presented by the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, Benneth Igweh, at a press conference on Friday.
Igwe disclosed that the police immediately launched an investigation and successfully apprehended the suspect, who had previously worked as a driver for the deceased couple.
He stated that police investigators trailed the suspect and arrested him at his hiding place in Obajana, Kogi.
Igwe claimed that the suspect confessed to entering the house on the same day, cutting the throats of the deceased, and stealing the couple’s phones and ATM cards.
Meanwhile, the police chief also disclosed that the command detained two others on April 11, 2024, on charges of culpable homicide in the Mabushi area of Abuja.
Igweh said the suspects were apprehended by officers from the Mabushi Division after receiving information that the body of Bilkisu Mohammed was being secretly transported.
Igweh revealed, “The deceased had previously visited the home of her supposed boyfriend, who eventually traveled to Kano and left her in the care of the female suspect.
“The deceased supposedly fell ill and was given unauthorized medication that resulted in her death by the male suspect who came to the house at the invitation of the female suspect.”
He stated that the suspects were presently undergoing questioning in police custody.
Igweh said officers from the Utako Division arrested nine armed robbers on April 6, 2024, in a well-coordinated operation.
The CP stated that during interrogation, the suspects admitted to being part of an armed robbery gang responsible for a series of robberies and other serious crimes in the FCT.
He mentioned that four locally made AK 47 rifles, three homemade cartridge rifles, one English pistol, and one dane gun were seized from the suspects.
Additionally, three live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one live round of 5.56mm ammunition, and an empty cartridge were recovered from the suspects.
Igwe revealed that police personnel on routine crime prevention patrol at Durumi IDP Camp on April 9 intercepted three suspected armed robbers, who had one English-made pistol and a Mazda vehicle with the registration RBC 117 EV.
The CP stated that following the conclusion of the investigation, all the suspects would face charges in court.
