The Peoples Democratic Party's National Executive Committee has urged President Bola Tinubu to promptly reshape his economic team to improve the country’s economy.
The PDP stated in a communication at the end of the 98th NEC meeting in Abuja that President Tinubu needs to urgently revamp his economic team with individuals known for their honesty and competence, free from bias and personal interests, to help reorganize the economy.
The NEC also demands that the government review policies and programs that are stifling the economy and negatively impacting citizens' lives, such as fuel price hikes without corresponding measures, increased electricity tariffs, higher taxation, and unfavorable fiscal policies.
The PDP's communique, signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, expresses concern about poorly implemented policies of the APC administration leading to worsening insecurity, severe economic hardship, high unemployment, skyrocketing food and living costs, and widespread despair across the country.
The NEC also urged the President to promptly organize a special National Security Council meeting to propose comprehensive solutions and measures to address the worrying insecurity and its negative effects in the country.
The NEC has serious concerns about the increase in acts of terrorism and violence, including escalating mindless killings, mass abduction of innocent Nigerians, and attacks on communities in various parts of the country.
The NEC condemns the insensitivity, incompetence, and arrogance of the APC administration, which it perceives as lacking interest or commitment to the wellbeing of Nigerians.
The NEC also condemns the emerging totalitarianism and tendencies toward a One-Party State, which it sees as detrimental to the nation's peace, stability, and existence, as well as the development of democracy and good governance in the country.
However, the PDP NEC urged all party organs to set aside personal or group interests and collaborate to reposition and return the PDP to power for the benefit of the Nigerian people.
The NEC charges all party members to continue working together for the success of the PDP and the sustenance of democracy in the country.
