Nigerian duo Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze have been selected in Serie A Team of The Week for their strong performances for Napoli and AC Milan, respectively.
In a tweet shared by Whoscored.com on Tuesday, the two Super Eagles forwards were recognized as top-performing players in the Italian top division for the weekend.
While Osimhen was the sole Napoli player in the team, Milan had the most with six players chosen. Roma, Juventus, Torino, and Sassuolo each had one player.
Osimhen was picked after guiding Napoli to a 4-2 comeback victory against Monza at U-Power Stadium – Brianteo, scoring a remarkable header.
In the 55th minute of the match, with the champions behind by a goal, the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year rose incredibly to meet André-Frank Anguissa’s cross and score, leveling the game for Napoli.
It was his first goal since his hat-trick against Sassuolo on February 28.
He has now taken his season total to 12 in the league and 14 across all competitions.
On his part, Chukwueze continued his strong performance, inspiring Milan to a convincing 3-0 victory over Lecce on Saturday.
The former Villarreal standout assisted Christian Pulisic’s goal in the win, and his performance over 90 minutes earned him the Man of the Match honor.
The 24-year-old has now scored two goals for Stefano Pioli’s team in the last three league games.
Also included in the team was Mike Maignan in goal, while the defense featured Davide Calabria (Milan), Diego Llorente (Roma), Federico Gatti (Juventus), and Théo Hernandez (Milan).
In midfield, Nedim Bajrami (Sassuolo), Yacine Adli (Milan), Rafael Leão (Milan), and Chukwueze were selected, while Osimhen and Duván Zapata were the two strikers completing the team.
