Lionsgate is changing the release dates for some big movies before their CinemaCon presentation. They've moved the release of 'The Crow,' featuring Bill Skarsgard, from June 7 to August 23. The movie has been delayed before so moving it two months isn't a huge change.
The next 'Saw' movie, 'Saw XI,' was supposed to come out on September 27, 2024, but it's now delayed a year and will be released on September 26, 2025. Sources say this is to ensure the movie is very successful after 'Saw X' comes out.
Other changes to release dates include giving the spot planned for 'Saw XI' to 'Never Let Go,' a thriller by director Alexandre Aja with Halle Berry. Also, the Christmas-themed movie 'The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,' starring Judy Greer and Lauren Graham, will come out a week earlier, on November 8.
Despite some fluctuation in stock price, the studio has a strong lineup. It was announced in March that director Chad Stahelski had made a multi-year deal with the studio and his company, 87Eleven Entertainment.
The announcement came after Stahelski signed on to direct a new 'Highlander' movie and take creative control of the 'Highlander' and 'John Wick' franchises in film, TV, and other platforms. Stahelski and his team at 87Eleven Entertainment are leading the creation of a multi-platform content strategy for both franchises.
Vice Chairman Michael Burns said at a Morgan Stanley event that they are looking into more opportunities for movies like 'Twilight.' He mentioned plans for an animated 'Twilight' series and a potential 'John Wick' TV series.
