Former “Real Housewives of Orange County” personality Lauri Peterson announced the passing of her 35-year-old son, Joshua “Josh” Waring, on March 31, 2024. As per TMZ, law enforcement in Orange County have concluded that Waring most likely died from an overdose.
Peterson’s Her last photo of her late son that she shared on Instagram was from December 21, 2020. The picture depicted Peterson and her son sitting closely together while facing the camera. The former RHOC reality TV star greeted her son with a “Happy Birthday” in the caption of the post.
“Happy Birthday Josh!! As you commemorate this special day, recognize that life has presented a new chapter for you. May you always start each day with hope and appreciation, for they will always guide you to happiness and tranquility. You are surrounded by love!!! Enjoy your day! Love Mom❤️,” wrote Peterson.
Several supporters conveyed well-wishes to Waring and Peterson in the comments section. A number of Instagram users mentioned that Peterson had openly discussed Waring’s struggle with addiction.

Lauri Peterson Shared Her Son’s Passing on Instagram
According to a report by Page Six, Peterson informed her followers about Waring’s death in an Instagram post on April 6 . In the caption, she expressed deep sorrow over the situation.“No one can ever prepare you for this feeling of such deep loss. Every fiber in my body hurts. Josh fought every single day for most of his adult life, for his life, but this past Sunday, the challenge was too great,” wrote the former
She also shared that her son’s “childhood was filled with deep intellect, humor, pranks, athletics, snow boarding, body boarding mountain hikes, reading, friends and his love for music.” Bravo star.
Additionally, she mentioned that Waring was the father of a 10-year-old daughter named Kennady. Peterson is Kennady’s adoptive mother.
“He received the most joy, pride and purpose through his daughter Kennady and watching her grow and thrive over the years,” wrote Peterson.
Peterson also expressed gratitude to individuals who “have tried to help Josh along the way.”
“I am witness to many Angels on earth. Not everyone understands those suffering from substance abuse disorder, but I am forever grateful for your understanding and the impact you made on his life,” read a portion of the post’s caption.
Page Six reported that Waring was incarcerated for four years until 2020 “after being arrested for attempted murder.”
Lauri Peterson Talked About Her Son in a 2018 Interview
While speaking to TODAY in 2018,
Peterson discussed her son’s struggle with substance abuse. She mentioned that he started “withdrawing” and “smoking marijuana” around the age of 14 after she divorced his father, Phillip Waring. The reality television personality then shared that her son eventually became addicted to heroin. Peterson expressed deep sadness and shock about the situation, mentioning that she never expected such a problem in their family. She mentioned educating herself about addiction, something she never thought she would have to do, and feeling helpless to help her son.
She also mentioned that she left RHOC in 2008 partly because of her son’s addiction.
Peterson explained that as the show became focused on conflict, she felt uncomfortable, and with her son's issues, she felt it was time to step back and focus on her family.
