The City of Kelowna says it will invest $95 million in infrastructure projects this year, including $21 million in local parks.
Part of the investment is for building the fifth phase of Glenmore recreation park.
The park was designed in 2023 after extensive input from the community and will eventually have many facilities such as tennis and pickleball courts, a turf field, fitness equipment and landscaping improvements.
Also this year, work will begin to enhance the community park on DeHart Road in the Lower Mission neighborhood.
The park will include a playground, fitness equipment, skateboard features, a pickleball court, a basketball court, a fenced dog run and a multi-use field.
Finally, construction on Burne Park, next to Mill Creek, will start this autumn.
Knox Mountain Park, Ben Lee Park, Tallgrass Park and Kinsmen Park will also receive upgrades.
“We’re creating new parks and improving existing ones, offering residents vibrant, accessible outdoor spaces to connect with their families, friends and neighbors,” said Robert Parlane, park and building planning manager.
“These spaces provide both quiet and active recreation options, are accessible to people of all ages and abilities, and are key to building community in Kelowna.”
