The Otun Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abimbola Ajibola, said on Tuesday that Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who is expected to be the next Olubadan, is currently unwell and unfit to rule.
The PUNCH reports that the Olubadan throne became empty following the death of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, who ruled for two years and passed away at the age of 81.
Oba Ajibola, speaking to journalists at his Sanyo private residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, stated, “Why the rush? We have not seen this person (Olakulehin). He has not talked to us or the people of Ibadan.
“I am his second in command, I’m his lieutenant. He has not contacted me to say, ‘My Otun, I’m back. So, inform your people. And when are you seeing me?’ They are just pushing him because of their own selfish interests.”
In reference to the meeting at Chief Bode Amoo's private residence at Agodi Government Reserved Area in Ibadan, Oba Ajibola remarked, “They claimed we convened a meeting and we have given our approval to him (Olakulehin). I’m not involved in that. I've expressed my disagreement that I won't participate in that illegal act. We know Baba Olakulehin is the next Olubadan, but let's allow him to recover.
“Has anyone seen him since last Friday? Those who visited after Friday were unable to see him. They are pressuring this man. We should allow him to recuperate.”
