Families and low-income seniors who get help with rent through the Rental Assistance Program (RAP) and SAFER program will now get an additional one-time benefit.
The B.C. government announced Tuesday morning that the one-time benefit of $430 will be added to the recipient’s bank account along with their regular RAP or SAFER payment this month.
B.C.’s Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon stated that adjustments to the SAFER program will allow about 4,800 more seniors to qualify and current recipients will see a monthly increase of about $110.
“We are making changes to the SAFER program to assist more seniors, and giving an extra cheque to seniors and families who are currently having difficulties with the cost of living and rent,” Kahlon said.
“This benefit, and the long-term changes to SAFER, will help ensure more seniors and families can stay in their homes.”
