Dwayne Johnson wasn’t actually on “The View” on Friday morning, but he still received a round of negative reactions from the show’s audience. This is because the actor and WWE star is choosing not to give his support to a presidential candidate this year.
As part of the day’s Hot Topics, the ABC hosts aired a clip of Johnson from an interview this week with 'Fox & Friends,' where he explained that, although he previously supported President Biden, he will not be doing so again this year.
Johnson mentioned that he is unhappy with the state of the country, but clarified that his decision is more about the public's perception than his political views.
“Am I gonna do that again this year? That answer is no,” Johnson said. “I’m not gonna do that, because what I realized, what that caused back then was something that tears me up in my guts, back then and now, which is division.”
Following the clip, host Joy Behar tried to introduce the main question of the segment, but was interrupted by loud booing from the audience. The reaction was so strong that it even provoked laughter from Behar herself.
“First of all, should I pay any attention to who gives an interview on Fox, where they lie every day?” she said once she was finally able to speak.
Following this, the hosts discussed whether celebrities should be required to support political candidates. Overall, the women agreed that the real obligation is simply to encourage people to vote.
However, host Ana Navarro had a theory as to why Dwayne Johnson is choosing not to align with any particular party.
“Everybody loves The Rock, and The Rock wants everybody to love him,” she said.
