Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has cautioned individuals whose names were listed as members of the caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party not to present themselves at any party office. He warned that those caught would be arrested for forgery and impersonation.
The list of caretaker committee members of the PDP was widely shared on social media and published in some national newspapers on Thursday.
However, following a meeting with the PDP National Working Committee at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja later that day, the governor referred to the circulating list as false and deceptive.
As per a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, in Port Harcourt on Friday, the governor announced that the decisions made during a meeting between the NWC, members of the Board of Trustees, and PDP Governors’ Forum in Abuja in March on the matter are still valid.
The governor asserted that a letter from the PDP National Organising Secretary, Hon Umar Bature, dated Wednesday, March 27, 2024, and directed to the Chairman of the Rivers State Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka, had effectively settled the matter of the legitimate members of the Caretaker Committees at the affected levels.
The governor stressed that the party adheres to the agreement reached on the issue as outlined in the letter, stating that no form of intimidation, secretive actions, unnecessary lobbying, or wasteful use of public funds will alter the already established position.
