The Niger State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Bashir Yerima, stated that all the Electricity Distribution Companies in Nigeria have let down the people.
The Federal Government had instructed the distribution companies to produce, distribute and transmit electricity to all areas of the country after the National Electrical Power Authority did not fulfill its responsibility.
But when talking with Saturday PUNCH on Thursday, Yerima remarked that the Discos had performed poorly, and this should not lead to the state government leaving the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
He mentioned, “It has not reached the point of withdrawing from the AEDC, even though the Assembly considered advising the governor to do so. Even the governor has been thinking about leaving AEDC, but it is unrelated to our independent power generation plans.
“All the Discos have failed. You can quote me in the newspapers that I said so; all the DISCOs have failed, all of them. I don’t know the reason for their failure. For me, nobody is seeing light from the Discos. It is not AEDC alone; it is all the Discos,” he added.
