The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has given the green light for an increase in electricity prices for customers in the Band A category.
According to NERC's Vice Chairman, Musliu Oseni, customers in this category will now pay N225 per kilowatt hour (KW/h), up from the current N66.
PUNCH Online explains that Band A customers receive 20-24 hours of electricity supply daily.
Band B subscribers get 16 to 20 hours of power supply, while Band C customers receive 12 to 16 hours of power supply every day.
Band D subscribers benefit from eight to 12 hours of daily power supply, and Band E subscribers only get four to eight hours of electricity supply each day.
However, the increment has sparked disputes over which category customers belong to, with many worried about being charged for more than what they use.
