In a sneak peek During her show on Friday, Drew Barrymore shared some exciting news about a possible sequel to Adam Sandler’s 1996 film “Happy Gilmore.” After texting Sandler, Barrymore told her audience that a sequel is a real possibility and that there is a process in progress.
Barrymore began the segment by mentioning reports that Sandler has written the first draft of a sequel script. She expressed her excitement and desire for the sequel, mentioning that she had watched ‘Billy Madison’ with her daughter.
“I sent Sandler a video of that and waiting for his confirmation about the ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ script,” Barrymore said.
Barrymore also mentioned that Christopher McDonald, who played Shooter McGavin in the original movie, had seen Sandler's script.
Barrymore triumphantly shared that McDonald claimed to have seen the first draft of the sequel. She even sent a selfie to Sandler to inquire further, jokingly calling herself a proper journalist.
Later in the clip, Barrymore received some breaking news and mentioned that 'it is in process. There is a process, and that process is in process.'
The original movie starred Sandler as a character who discovers his golfing talent, joins a pro tour, and hopes to save his grandmother’s home. Other stars included Julie Bowen and the late Carl Weathers.
