Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can no longer support his carbon tax after increasing its cost since its introduction.
Smith believes that if Trudeau has to refer to a statement she made three years ago, it means he can't defend his current position.
Trudeau rejected a request from some premiers to hold a first ministers’ meeting on the federal levy.
Trudeau considers such a meeting unnecessary and suggests that Smith has changed her opinion on the program.
He referred to a video of Smith discussing the possible benefits of carbon levy rebates in 2021.
Smith, along with the premiers of Ontario, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador, have written open letters outlining their concerns about the carbon price's impact on affordability.
