City of Edmonton crews will start cleaning major roadsand business improvement areas starting Monday. Spring clean-up of major roads and business improvement areas will start on Monday.
Sweeping of paths and bike lanes will also begin on Monday, and residential road sweeping will start on April 15.
Crews will sweep Monday to Friday, 24 hours a day. Drivers are advised to watch out for equipment.
A parking ban will be enforced starting April 15 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays for residential neighborhoods when crews are active. Vehicles must be moved off the road when cleaning is scheduled. Drivers who don't move their vehicles could get a $250 fine.
Signs indicating a parking ban will be placed in each neighborhood at least 48 hours before work begins.
All roads are expected to be cleaned by June 1, weather permitting. Night crews will work on boulevards and arterial roads from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., and residential roads will be cleaned from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Homeowners are urged to remove driveway ramps when cleaning crews are in the area. Workers will avoid ramps and other items left on the road.
According to the City of Edmonton, sweeping prevents vehicle damage and prevents unwanted materials from entering storm drains and the air.
