Three-time African Games champion and world record holder in women's 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, will start her Wanda Diamond League season in Xiamen on April 20. This information was reported by The PUNCH.
Amusan is among 12 Olympic gold medallists and 27 world champions who will be at Egret Stadium in Xiamen.
The 26-year-old will compete against three reigning global champions in the sprint hurdles – Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, world champion Danielle Williams and world indoor champion Devynne Charlton – as she defends her title.
In Eugene, Oregon, last September, Amusan won the Wanda Diamond League title for the third year in a row with a season best of 12.33secs.
Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico came second in 12.38secs, while USA's Harrison finished third in 12.44secs.
As the 2022 world champion with a world record of 12.12secs, she is expected to be one of the athletes contending for the Olympic gold in Paris in August, battling against Camacho-Quinn.
She will also strive to secure her fourth consecutive win and become the second woman in Diamond League history to achieve a hat-trick of 100m hurdles titles in 2023.
Amusan achieved this on the same track in Oregon, where she won the World Championships the previous year and set the current world record of 12.12secs.
However, it seems that Amusan might miss the second Diamond League meet of the year in Suzhou, China after being excluded from the confirmed list of sprint hurdlers for the event.
The Suzhou meet, scheduled for April 27, will be the second of two Chinese events marking the start of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season.
Trio Camacho-Quinn, Williams and Charlton were listed for the Suzhou event, while Amusan, unless there's a last-minute change, will return to Europe or the USA.
