The famous cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye also known as Bobrisky, did not comply with the bail terms given to him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Bobrisky got arrested and held by the EFCC's Lagos State Command on Wednesday for mishandling naira, tossing naira notes, and damaging currency.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, confirmed in a phone interview on Thursday evening that Bobrisky did not meet the conditions of his bail.
Oyewale mentioned, “He has been given administrative bail but has not met the requirements.”
Earlier, Oyewale mentioned, “Bobrisky is in our custody. He was arrested last night in Lagos and is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for purportedly mishandling naira notes, throwing naira notes, and damaging currency, among other things.
“We are very serious about upholding the respect of the naira. Even though our investigation is ongoing, he will certainly be taken to court soon.”
Later, the EFCC posted a statement titled “EFCC Grills Bobrisky for Naira Abuse” on its social media handle. It mentioned, “Officers from the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have started investigating Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, for allegedly tossing Naira notes.
“The EFCC had summoned the 31-year-old after a video emerged of him tossing and displaying bundles of new Naira notes at the premiere of a movie, Ajakaju, produced by Eniola Ajao, a Nollywood actress and producer, at Film One Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos on March 24, 2024.
“Investigations also disclosed that he had also committed the alleged offense at various other event venues and parties.
He went to the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC on the morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2024 for questioning and provided his statements.
“He will soon face charges in court once investigations are complete.”
