Ondo State Government has reminded civil servants to uphold the highest level of professionalism and follow the set principles, rules, and regulations of the service.
The government also warned employees not to get involved in political activities leading up to the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission scheduled the election for November 16, 2024.
During the unveiling of the 2024 promotion exercise for civil servants on Wednesday, the state Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip, cautioned about the issue.
Philip, pointing out that 2024 is an election year in the state, urged civil servants to stay away from political activities and avoid any type of election campaign in any form.
He stated, “I want to advise you, in your respective roles, you should not compromise on quality and timeliness. Your work should meet high standards and be completed on time. Perform your duties as dedicated civil servants that you are.
“I also want to emphasize. This is an election year. Do your job. As civil servants, you should not engage in politics. Use your intellect more than your words.”
Regarding the workers' promotions, the HoS mentioned that at least 4,200 eligible workers would receive promotions, as Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa had authorized the promotion of all deserving officers along with the associated financial benefits.
Philip, expressing gratitude to the governor for the initiative, encouraged the beneficiaries to reciprocate by delivering their best in their service, stating, “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
“‘I want to acknowledge Mr. Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who stated, ‘Head of Service, do not bother me with any file, promote all deserving employees who are due for promotion.’
“Our governor, Aiyedatiwa, believes that a laborer deserves his wages even before his sweat dries, and an officer deserves to be promoted when it is due.
“In Ondo State, no deserving officer has been neglected in terms of promotions, and this is due to the government's goodwill in Ondo State,” he said.
