A man is in prison and is facing various charges, including attempted murder, after a woman was seriously attacked.
On Monday night, authorities were informed about the Powerview, Man. RCMP which occurred in a residence on Highway 11 in the Rural Municipality of Alexander. assault Upon arrival, the police found a severely injured woman outside the residence. They stated that she was taken to a nearby hospital and then transported to Winnipeg for treatment.
A man holding a young child was also present at the scene, according to Mounties. He was identified as the suspect and, when approached by the RCMP, fled into the residence with the child. The Mounties requested that he hand over the child to family members or the police, but he refused.
Police stated that the 36-year-old individual was agitated and unpredictable. He made threats towards officers and family members and eventually placed the child on the ground, after which the officers quickly retrieved the child.
The man then charged at the officers and was tasered, but it had no effect, authorities stated. He proceeded to bite and hit the police before fleeing the residence and seeking refuge in a shed.
The RCMP confirmed that the child was unharmed, and additional support, including Mack, a Police Service Dog, was called in.
Mack and several officers entered the shed and discovered the suspect in hiding.
He attempted to resist and resorted to biting, hitting, and kicking the officers during the arrest, according to the police. Eventually, he was restrained and taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Multiple officers sustained minor injuries, with one being treated and discharged from the hospital.
The inquiry is ongoing.
