Kogo State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has expressed sympathy for the families of the Obajana accident victims.
13 people died and two were injured in the accident on Sunday night.
The PUNCH reported The Federal Road Safety Corps reported that 13 people died and 21 were injured in accidents in Kogi and Benue states on Monday.
Samuel Oyedeji, the Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, told reporters in Lokoja that the accident in Kogi happened around 7.30 pm on Sunday.
Oyedeji mentioned that the accident involved a commercial Sharon bus and an articulated cement truck near Obajana Market on the Obajana-Lokoja Road in the Lokoja Local Government Area of the state.
After receiving a report of the accident upon his return to Lokoja on Monday, Ododo expressed sympathy for the families of the victims and assured that the state government would support them in their time of sorrow.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, and made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Tuesday, Ododo said he was troubled by the accident, which happened when an articulated truck collided with a passenger bus near the Obajana market late Sunday night and caused a fire.
While expressing sympathy for the families of the victims, Ododo said, “I am troubled that this accident led to loss of lives and damage to property in the area.
“I feel sorry for the families of those who lost their lives and the survivors, and I promise that we will not abandon them in their time of sadness.”
He praised emergency management services in the state for responding effectively to the accident.
The governor urged people to avoid traveling at night.
“I also want to applaud the Federal Road Safety Commission and other agencies for their quick response, but again I want to urge Nigerians to avoid night travels and for transporters in the state to keep passenger lists at bus terminals to help with identification in situations like this,” the governor said.
