24 years later, it is revealed that Matt Damon was supporting “The Matrix” at the 72nd Academy Awards in 2000 — the same year as his Oscar-nominated film, “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” 72nd Academy Awards in 2000 — the same year as his Oscar-nominated film, “The Talented Mr. Ripley.”
During Monday’s “Colbert Questionnaire,” Matt Damon shared this detail in a segment where he was asked 15 rapid-fire questions by Stephen Colbert.
When asked to select his favorite action movie, Damon mentioned, “It is a tough one because there are some great ones, but I think a movie that had recently made it into the academy, and I voted for it for Best Picture, was ‘The Matrix.”
Just before that, Damon had to respond to the question: “What do you think happens when we die?”
“I think we go home,” he said, which was followed by a moment of silence before the audience applauded.
Elsewhere in the questionnaire, Damon mentioned his favorite sandwich and shared that his first concert was with Holly Near, experiencing “real hippie stuff,” at just 7 years old. He even sang to mimic the music advocating for peace and anti-nuclear warfare.
When it comes to fears, Damon expressed that the scariest animal for him is a great white shark, a fear stemming from 15 years ago when he went diving in South Africa. He described being “completely in awe of how beautiful they are” but also “completely aware of how ridiculously lethal they are.”
“They’re perfectly camouflaged in that water,” the actor remarked. “Like a 5-meter shark will just be next to you before you even see it. It does help you realize you don’t have a chance, and if you see them breach, the power with which they — they are death machines.”
Colbert also asked Damon if he prefers apples or oranges, referencing his iconic “Good Will Hunting” line … “How do you like them apples?”
