The District 2 Wrestling Coaches Association unveiled the All-Academic Team for the 2023-2024 season, with five Wyoming Valley Conference wrestlers achieving first team All-Academic status.
Liam Evanko and Carlo Salinas from Wilkes-Barre Area, Lincoln Bibla and Ethan Zabroski from Crestwood, and Nate Obrzut from Wyoming Area were all recognized with first team All-Academic honors, as indicated in the list distributed on Tuesday.
The All-Academic second team included eight WVC wrestlers, with six from Berwick: Liam Carroll, Kyle Winter, Tyler Winter, Josh Kishbaugh, Collin Hornberger, and Jacob Guerriero. Reilley Kirkutis from Lake-Lehman and Connor Novakowski from Wyoming Area also received second team recognition.
Five more WVC grapplers received an All-Academic honorable mention: Dominick Rikoskie, Alahna Morris, and River Morgan from Lake-Lehman; Isabelle May from Berwick; and Gene Ardo from Wilkes-Barre Area.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Hazleton Area secures 3-1 victory over Nanticoke Area
The Cougars came back after losing the first set, winning the next three to secure the victory over Nanticoke Area. Nanticoke won the first set 25-15, and Hazleton won the remaining three by scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-19.
Rafael Chavez made 13 kills for Hazleton. Felix Peraza had nine kills, and Ronny Rodriguez provided 31 assists.
Liam Mullery contributed eight kills for the Trojans in the defeat.
Berwick dominates Lake-Lehman with a 3-0 victory
The Bulldogs achieved their first win of the season with a clean sweep of Lake-Lehman, securing set scores of 25-4, 25-9, and 25-12.
Carlos Guzman had six kills and Brock Seely had five for Berwick. Ethan Lear and Jackson Matash combined for 16 aces and 25 service points.
Delaware Valley triumphs over Tunkhannock with 3-0 win
The Warriors swept Tunkhannock with set scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-15.
Zachary MacBain led Tunkhannock with six kills, while Marcus Binner added six assists.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Abington Heights defeats Hazleton Area 16-4
Bella DeRiggi scored four goals to lead a strong offensive performance from Abington Heights. Gigi Butala completed a hat trick for the Comets, who had goals from eight different scorers.
Brooke Harmonosky scored two goals for Hazleton Area. Julia Bobrowski and Faith Russo contributed a goal each.

Scranton Prep dominates Lake-Lehman with an 18-0 victory
The Cavaliers overwhelmed Lake-Lehman on their way to victory. Liam Barrett scored four goals to lead Prep, while five other players each scored two goals.
Dominick Brown saved seven shots for Lake-Lehman.
